The base model comes with a healthy dose of comfort and convenience features that include air conditioning, cruise control, OnStar assistance, height adjustable driver's seat, fold-flat rear seat, power accessories, remote keyless entry, stereo system with CD/MP3 player, satellite radio, rear defogger and automatic headlights. The Torrent is available is two trim levels – base and GXP. A 60/40 rear seat slides eight inches forward or backward for storage or comfort flexibility. Two rows of seats comfortably accommodate up to five passengers with plenty of legroom and headroom. Dimensions that include a length of 188.8 inches, width of 71.4 inches and height of 69.3 inches provide ample interior room. Both vehicles are built on the GM Theta platform (along with the Saturn VUE and Suzuki XL-7) and feature nearly identical designs.
The Pontiac Torrent is a badge-engineered clone of the Chevrolet Equinox. As a mid-size SUV, the Torrent directly competes with vehicles such as the Hyundai Santa Fe, Honda Pilot and GMC Acadia. The GMC Terrain is considered to be the SUV's successor. Due to GM's attempt to strengthen Pontiac's image as a performance-oriented brand, the vehicle will be discontinued after the 2009 model year. The Pontiac Torrent is a crossover SUV that has been in production since the summer of 2005 (as a 2006 model).
